JSW Contracting tendered for this project in 2023, we were successful in our tender due to offering a bottom-up construction methodology which made for a much more attractive price point and minimal disruptions to the public as we did not have to close Kelburn Road/ set up disruptive traffic management.

We had to create a useable working bench for a 14T excavator on private property which meant we had to engage separately from the WCC in order to gain that access to complete the project. The works involved drilling x13 450mm wide 6.5-7.5m deep holes for 250 UC I beams. All beams were placed, concreted, and backfilled at 1.1m centres.

As the project commenced, we began engaging with Victoria University of Wellington, as ENGEO had recommended they extend the wall into their land as the current wall only covered WCC land. An amendment to the consent was quickly made, and we were able to extend the wall for VUW and save them on costs by doing it at the same time as the WCC wall.
